There can be pros and cons to working with your partner, but it seems to be panning out quite nicely for LA-based jewellery designers Ashley Lowengrub and Dara Gerson. They’re the husband and wife team behind Alkemie – an impressive range of bracelets, cuffs, necklaces and earrings forged entirely from 100% reclaimed metal. Both harking from a background in traditional metalwork, the pair turned to local, eco-friendly

materials after learning more about the harmful social and environmental effects of mining. With every Alkemie item handmade in downtown Los Angeles, the result is a range of bold, earthy pieces inspired by nature, love and the couple’s young daughters. A kiss on the hand may be quite continental, but it seems reclaimed metals are a girl’s best friend.
