Nervous System

Learning through jewellery

Hello living organism! You should be aware of your nervous system; it’s a Facebook for specialised cells (who have billions more buddies than you) that send messages to each other all the time, it’s your bodies PA. Jessica Rosenkrantz and Jesse Louis-Rosenberg combine science, art and technology to produce jewellery and other fab items; inspired by the natural form and process that is, a nervous system. Sounds pretty cool, huh? It is, and since 2007, the American talents behind Nervous System design studio have manipulated odd materials and practiced their innovative process to form beautiful jewellery pieces.

Sounding super hi-tech for such elegant and delicate creations, Nervous System employ computer simulation to generate their designs and digital fabrication to realise their products; using materials like nylon, silicone rubber, stainless steel, sterling silver and wool felt. If you don’t like their designs (which is doubtful), there’s a ‘diy’ (design it yourself) section available in each concept; under a creative commons license that encourages creativity. Each jewellery concept is not only stunning, but a mini biology lesson treating both sides of our brain; although, beware, you might get nervous about how fast your cart fills up.
