Intoart x John Smedley

Knits with wits

This capsule knitwear collection was designed by Ntiense Eno Amooquaye, Andre Williams and Yoshiko Phillips from the phenomenal 21-artist-strong collective Intoart: a London studio creating industry-viable creative opportunity for people with learning disabilities. It’s a first-of-its-kind collaboration with fine-gauge knitwear leader John Smedley, and includes creative direction by illustrator James Lambert and frequent collaborator Holly Fulton Studio to boot.

In a climate where the fashion press is yet to wake up to diversity (despite incredible humans like Marian Avila, Aaron Philip and Kerby Jean-Raymond leading the way) it makes sad sense that a case has to be made to the industry to take creatives with atypical abilities seriously. Intoart are doing it – and they’re doing it well. They’ve just launched a line of shawls, scarves and jumpers. Our favourite piece is the long-ass Andre Williams scarf, featuring the words ‘a colossal combination of all that is great’ because the same can be said for this collection.
